Add-in Installation

Prerequisites

The connection between SAP and the Promenta Excel Add-in requires that the SAP connection parameters are configured in the ini file mentioned below. As such a correct ini file for your system must be setup and stored at the correct location .

Promenta Add-in

Usually these steps are carried out by your IT support team

Promenta will provide a ZIP file containing the components EXCEPT Webdriver executable. As best practice- Promenta recommend you scan the ZIP file for viruses to comply to with your corporate policies. Promenta scan the files before delivery.

Unzip the file to the recommended location below

C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Roaming

On unzipping you will have a folder structure as below

Now download and install the web driver executable as described below

WebDriver

Usually these steps are carried out by your IT support team

  1. check Edge version of the local system – more details in section below
    • For example if your Edge version is 96.0.1054.34 you need to download Edge WebDriver version 96.n.nnnn.nn stable version
    • Ensure you have downloaded the version compatible with your system (64bit or 32 bit)
  2. Download the Edge driver compatible with your Edge Browser version from this link https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/
  3. Promenta only supports the Edge Stable version
  4. After download -place the ZIP file at this location <install>\PROMENTA\Webdriver
  5. for example : C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\PROMENTA\WebDriver
  6. unzip the webdriver zip file
  7. You should have the final folder structure as below

8. Review the .ini file to make sure it aligns with the install locations above.

Ensure your version of the .ini file also contains YOUR settings for SAP connections. The delivered version is just a template and will NOT work for you

Important Note that the INI file contains a “placeholder” variable [UserName] which will automatically enter the current users name in the path. Hence this setting should not need to change.

Webdriver Update

Failure to update the webdriver after browser update can cause the Add-in to fail. It is the customer responsibility to check the update schedule. 

The Webdriver executable is managed by the browser’s supplier (Edge is supplied by Microsoft). The browsers and associated webdrivers are regularly updated. The webdriver must be manually updated when the browser version is updated.

Promenta only support the stable version of the browser and driver

Add-in Setup

1. Open Excel and go to the Options Menu.
a. 2007 – Office Button > Excel Options
b. 2010 & 2013 – File > Options

2. Click the “Add-Ins” option (left-side menu), then click the “Go” button and a window will open.

3. Click the “Browse…” button on the Add-Ins Menu.

4. Locate the .xlam add-in file you saved in Step 1, and click OK. As exemple : C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\PROMENTA\Promenta_Journal_Webflow.xlsm

5. The Add-in will appear in the list and should be enabled, click OK.

7. Installation Complete – The add-in is now installed.

Additional steps

Set Trust Folder Location – this will prevent a macros security message at the top of your excel sheet every time you open an excel file (i.e. this step will register our XLAM file as a trusted file). The folder that the add-in file is saved in needs to be added as a Trusted Location in Excel. The instructions on how to trust the folder location are below.
a. Open the Excel Options menu – File > Options
b. Open the Trust Center menu and Add a new location
i. Trust Center >
ii. Trust Center Settings >
iii. Trusted Locations >
iv. Add new location
v. Browse for the folder that you saved the add-in file in.
vi. Press OK, and the folder should now appear in the Trusted Locations list.
vii. Press OK on the Trust Center and Excel Options menu to close the menus.
viii. The add-in is now in a trusted location and the Promenta menu option will appear every time you open Excel.

Additional Note – Unblock the File?

Some users may still have issues with the add-in’s ribbon disappearing after trusting the folder location. If this happens, you need to Unblock the file by changing a file property.
a. Go to the folder where you saved the Add-in file (.xla, .xlam) in Windows Explorer.
b. Right-click the file and select Properties.
c. At the bottom of the General tab you should see a Security section. Check the box that says Unblock.
d. Press the OK button.
e. Close Excel completely and re-open it. The add-in should now load and the Promenta custom ribbon will appear

After completing all of the above steps the Promenta add-in menu option will appear every time you open an excel file.
