KB0039 : Excel Add-in and Edge 134 Issue

Last update 12th March 2025 – Version 2

An issue has been reported following the general release of Microsoft Edge version 134.  Note that this issue is intermittent and some users with the versions below may experience no issues. This issue may also apply to Chrome but we have not yet had any reports of a similar issue.

This issue is under active investigation and so the advice may change over time. Please check back regularly.

Applies to

Promenta Excel add-in version 3.0.N and 3.1.N, 3.2.2 and below

Microsoft Edge 134

Symptoms

Users are able to log as normal. On processing a Validate function the Excel Adin reports “waiting for SAP response” and never stops. The Promenta Web page does not show any activity.

Sometimes users may find that the “waiting” shows even after the fix and they may need to to log off and try again.

Reproduce Issue

  1. Open a valid journal file
  2. Navigate to the Promenta Add-in, select the Validate button and select an appropriate system
  3. Logon in the normal way (user and password or single sign-on)
  4. The Excel Add-in shows “get element” and “set element” progress messages at first and then stops at “waiting for SAP Response”
  5. The validation process never completes
  6. Eventually the Excel add-in will ask if you want to continue waiting

Temporary Solution/Work-around

This work-around should allow users to continue to post although behaviour of the Add-in may be slightly different.

This work-around should be used only until the Interim solution or the Long term solution is implemented (next sections). Promenta will not support the Work-around indefinitely

Update the file : Promenta_Excel_RFC_Service.ini

search for this entry and make the value ON

<debug_sapcon>ON</debug_sapcon>

If this entry is not found in your ini file then insert it into the <connection> section as shown below

Note that sometimes you also need to set <debug_excel>ON</debug_excel> but it is not recommended unless you find that setting debug_sapcon=ON does not fix the issue

Side-effects of the change

Users may notice that the Webpage (Edge) and The Add-in (Excel) do not always automatically switch across. The users might need to click on the web page or excel in their task bar to switch.

Interim Solution

All customers are recommended to go to the Long Term solution as soon as possible. However we recognise that this may be difficult and so have an interim solution. Note that all customers must be on the Long Term Solution by the end of 2025 as per KB0038 – Excel Add-in Migration Path

Solution

  • Install Promenta Excel Addin Version 3.3.1 or above to all users.
  • There is no need to update ini files.
  • The users will continue to use the WebDriver as before.

After installation – proceed to planning for the Long Term solution

Long Term Solution

All customers are recommended to update to the latest version of Promenta including using the PromentaCA application as explained in this article. KB0038 – Excel Add-in Migration Path

Customers should update as soon as possible because Promenta will not be providing a solution for this issue in earlier Add-ins.

As per the article the support for Edge Webdriver will be ending as at 31st December 2025
