V4 Installer

The Promenta Installer will install the Promenta Excel Add-in into your system .

This page refers to the Standard Installation scenario (installed into users own system). 

Prerequisites

  • Promenta SAP components version 6.45.0.0 or above
  • Desktop : Windows 10 / 11. NOTE : Chromebook , Apple IOS, Linux are NOT supported.
  • At least 20MB of free space is recommended
  • Excel : 2016 or above
  • .Net : If installing the PromentaCA app then .Net 8.0.10 is minimum requirement. The installer will install .Net if applicable and if the user has permission.  Note that for silent installs .Net must be installed before the Promenta Combined installer is run.
  • Desktop permission : Administration access is not required in standard installs unless .Net is also being installed.
  • Generate your SAP Connection file Promenta_Excel_RFC_Service.ini
  • Group Policy : noextensibilitycustomizationfromdocument for excel must be deactivated. This setting is delivered deactivated in Windows 10/11. It is curently delivered active in Azure InTune deskops.

Installation : Standard Scenario

The PromentaCA app and Excel Add-in are installed for a specific user . The Add-in is registered for the current user.

Normally the admin mode is not selected.

Admin install and/or VDI (shared context) installs are not Standard scenarios

Installation : Preparation

Prep Step 1  : Download the installer

Only download the latest installer. You may also see older installers present which may be there for historic reasons but you should only install these if explicitly told to do so.

Prep Step 2 : Unzip the installer file (if it is zipped)

Prep Step 3 : Execute the installer file

NOTE : If excel is open already the installer will ask you to save your work and close excel.

Installation

You are installing in the Standard scenario – this is an installation into your own desktop and own profile. This is not the server/VDI installation.

Step 1 : Select installation mode

Here you are asked if you are installing for yourself or for all users. Installing for all users requires Admin permission.

Choose “Install for me only”

Step 2 : Welcome screen

Review the messages on the Welcome screen. If you press Next you are agreeing to the “End-User License Agreement”. You can review this agreement below

You can cancel at any time to stop the install.

Step 3 : Installation Options

This screen enables you to select the Scenario and also decide which components should be installed

The default values (Standard install , Components Excel Add-in and PCA Application selected) should be kept unless advised by Promenta

If you are performing an initial installation into a new system then you must provide the .ini file “Promenta_Excel_RFC_Service.ini”.

If you are performing an update then the .ini file is optional and can be left empty

Step 4 : Installation destination 

The installation destination applies only to the PCA app. It should not be changed unless instructed by Promenta.

Step 5 : Excel Add-in activation

The system indicates that it will Install and activate the Excel add-in to your Excel application. You should leave this as set (ie checked)

Step 6 : Summary

This screen will show you the summary of the changes that will be done. If the 

“Install” button is pressed the install will begin to make changes to your system. You may still cancel at this point.

Step 7 : Complete

The screen below will show that all changes are performed and you can optionally start the PromentaCA app to check for successful install

Post-Install

If you opted to launch the PromentaCA application then a screen like this will be shown.

Silent / Unattended Installs

This section is aimed at technical ,PC and desktop support personnel. This option is NOT supported for general end-user installation.

The installation can be setup to run without dialogs (unless there is an error) which is useful when you use update mechanisms that are controlled centrally.

Note : .Net must be previously installed to run a silent install. (See prerequisites above) If not running silently then .Net will be installed by the installer.

The following command line parameters can be used. Use of other parameters is not supported even if running /? /help or similar lists other parameters.

All parameters should be prefixed with / and all parameters that are a name/value pair should be format /name=value

/SILENT – will suppress most screens but show the progress bar. It is recommended for online installs.

/VERYSILENT – will suppress most screens and also any progress indicators. 

/SUPPRESSMSGBOXES – will suppress the message that Excel is already running and must be shutdown. Hence not recommended in most cases as the user should be given change to close excel.

/PR_SCENARIO –  the install scenario. Valid values are STD (standard install) or SRV (server install). Default is STD if not supplied

/PR_INI_PATH=<full file path to the ini file to be copied> – this path must be fully accessible to the user. Wrap the path in quotes if the path contains spaces. This file will replace the file at the install directory. Required on initial install. Optional on update.

/PR_INSTALL_PCA – determine if the PromentaCA component should be installed. Valid values TRUE or FALSE. Default to TRUE

/PR_INSTALL_EXCEL – determine if the Excel Add-in component should be installed. Valid values TRUE or FALSE. Default to TRUE

Silent Install : Examples

The examples below are provided as additional help only. Accuracy must be checked by the user.

Example 1 : Silent standard install

Install for the current user 

Promenta_Comb_3.3.2.003.exe /SILENT /PR_INI_PATH="C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop\ini_files\Promenta_Excel_RFC_Service.ini" /CURRENTUSER

Example 2 : Silent Server install

Install for all users into a server context. Administrator access is required.
