V4 Connection Service [using specified user]
Please refer to the connection service setup here unless you specifically want to define specific service user.
The Connection Service can be used to provide a central point of control for all users’ SAP Server connections. This means that your IT team can configure the Promenta Excel Add-in installer to have a base configuration and the connection file (the ini file) does not have to be deployed for each new SAP system that is added.
This is an optional component available from 6.46.2.0 and Add-on version 4.0.1.003
The connection service allows the excel installation package to be configured once and then the service will provide the additional SAP connections without needing to update the Excel installation package further.
- You can add new SAP systems at any time without new ini file updates
- You can create a single deployment package one time.
Note : the Connection Service is accessible to anyone on your network but it does not contain any logon credentials or other confidential information. It only provides a list of available SAP systems.
1) System setup [ONE-TIME task]
This is a one time task
Step 1 : Create limited system user
Transaction SU01
User type : System
Add valid password
Assign role : YZY_PROMENTA_SYSINI_SRV –> or a copy of this role
Step 2 : Activate service
Transaction SICF
Service path : /promenta/sysini_srv
Step 3 : Create External Alias for service
Transaction SICF
3A] Click on “External Alias” button as below
3B] Click “create” button while selecting “default host” node
Enter values
- External alias: /promenta/sysini_srv
- Description: Promenta Excel Connection Service
- Target : navigate to /promenta/sysini_srv and double-click it
Logon Data:
- Enter your service user, password and client
- Choose Procedure O=Required with Logon Data
Result :
You have now activated the Connection Service. You must now configure systems
2) Generate ini file [ONE-TIME task]
This is a one time task
Transaction : /PROMENTA/EXCEL_INI
Select Variant first to preconfigure the available buttons (either Workflow or Post)
Ensure that the option “SysIni Service” is selected
The system will generate the local URL to the Connection service
Execute the function and download the produced connection file
This file will contain :
- the active buttons and global functionality used by all systems
- the url to the connection url
Result :
The ini file is created and can be used for Excel Add-in installation
3) Excel Add-in Install [ONE-TIME task]
Install the Excel Add-in with the generated ini file
4) Manage Connections [Every new system]
Use this transaction for every new SAP system
Transaction : /PROMENTA/EXCEL_SYS
Here we will add the current system as a default entry.
